Killings: Buhari now ‘ commander -in-condolence’ – Ohuabunwa
From Steve Oko, Umuahia
Former Chairman of Nigeria Economic Summit, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa has lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari over his perceived indolence in tackling the spate of killings by his Fulani kinsmen.
Ohuabunwa who was reacting to the recent genocide in Plateau state by suspected Fulani herdsmen said the docility of the President in addressing the menace was the reason the killings had continued unabated.
He regretted that instead of playing his constitutional role as the Commander – in – Chief of the Armed Forces, President Buhari had rather reduced himself to ” Commander – in- Condolence” who only go to pay condolence visit to the relations of victims.
The elder statesmen tasked Buhari to stop treating murderous Fulani herdsmen with kid gloves, saying their barbaric activities are capable of plunging Nigeria into ethno- religious crisis if unchecked.
He wondered why the President had continued to ignore calls by Nigerians to checkmate the terrorists now masquerading as herdsmen.
Ohuabunwa said the President was yet to deal decisively with herdsmen menace, warning that time is running out for the challenge to be tackled before it consumes the entire country.
He said that it was strange for herdsmen to attack their victims for hours unchallenged by any of the security agencies only for the President to condole with the victims later.
He warned that history would judge every state actor and advised those elected to protect lives to discharge their responsibilities with the fear of God who will ultimately judge all men.
