Wike’s kinsman, Sen Azuta-Mbata emerges new Ohanaeze PG

Senator John Azuta-Mbata, from Ikwere in Rivers State, has emerged the President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.
Senator Azuta-Mbata who represented Rivers East senatorial zone in 1999, was elected to elected at Enugu on Friday, January 10 , 2025.
He hails from the same Ikwere clan with ex-Governor Nyesm Wike.
Ohaneze zoned its presidential slot to Rivers State in line with the rotational policy of the body.
Senator Azuta-Mbata succeeded Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu from Imo State who died in office in 2024.
Recall that the late Iwuanyanwu had stepped in to complete the tenure of the late Professor George Obiozor also from Imo State who had earlier passed on.
Former Inspector General of Police, had Thursday night withdrawn from the Ohaneze presidential race following a court order barring him from contesting.
There had been much pressure and controversy surrounding his ancestry.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Azuta-Mbata expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, and pledged to foster unity among Igbo people.
Senator Azuta-Mbata promised to tackle key challenges facing the community.
