Abia govt spits fire against sponsors of insecurity, fingers opposition
Obiachu Ngozi, Umuahia
Abia State Government has vowed to take decisive action against those responsible for the recent wave of violence and criminal activities, including attacks on security agents in the state.
The warning is coming on the heels of the recent attack on a military checkpoint at Ekenobizi which claimed the lives of two soldiers, and the killing of two police personnel at separate incidents at Ubakala in Umuahia South; and Ohafia respectively.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, Government will not allow enemies of progress to truncate efforts of the Alex Otti-led administration to rebuild the state.
The statement said reliable intelligence gathering and series of tip-offs from patriotic citizens of the state, indicated that opposition members were behind the current wave of insecurity rocking the state.
According to the statement, the current wave of insecurity in the state is being masterminded by “political opposition and external actors trying to destabilize and hinder the progress of the state.”
Government warned that it would not allow any person or group to threaten the safety and peace of its citizens.
“The State is a peace- loving one, known locally and internationally for promoting unity and progress”, the statement said.
The statement announced the launch of a counter offensive aimed at dismantling criminal activities and terror groups operating within the state.
According to the statement, no effort will be spared in bringing perpetrators to book.
Government promised to continue to prioritize the safety and security of residents, urging them to go about their daily activities without fear.
The government also urged “community leaders, traditional rulers and all Abians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies”.
It also charged them to cooperate fully with security agencies to root out criminals “who seek to disrupt the peace and harmony of the state.”
