CP Isa takes over as Abia new police boss, vows to sustain fight against insecurity
* Warns personnel against misconducts

The new Commissioner of Police, Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, Wednesday assumed duty with a vow to sustain the fight against crime and insecurity in the state.
This is as the out-going CP, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who was recently elevated to the position of Assistant Inspector General, AIG of Police, has charged officers and men of the command not to resurrect unethical conducts abolished under his watch.
Isa who was until his posting to Abia, the CP, Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Annex, Alagbon Lagos, took over from the out-going AIG who was redeployed to Zone 15, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The new CP hails from Oganenigu in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Addressing officers and members of the Management team of the Command, the new CP warned criminal elements to relocate from Abia, vowing not to allow them breeding ground in any part of the state.
He said he came with a clear mandate to ensure residents of the state had peace and security.
“I arrived here with a clear mission: to ensure peace and security in Abia State, to foster collaboration with all stakeholders, and to promote a conducive environment where law and order prevail”, he said.
The police boss who said he would work in synergy with other security agencies, promised to use technology and Intelligence gathering in the fight against crime.
“My commitment to the people of Abia is unwavering, and I am determined to work diligently with all relevant partners, including other security agencies, community leaders, and the public, to
achieve our shared goal of sustained peace and security.
“Under my leadership, the police in Abia will prioritize intelligence-led policing. This approach is crucial in tackling modern crime challenges, as it allows us to stay one step ahead by preventing
crimes before they occur.
“By gathering, analyzing, and acting on
timely and relevant information, we can be more proactive and responsive in dealing with criminal activities.”
CP Isa who said he had zero tolerance for corrupt practices, warned officers and men of the command to eschew unethical conducts or be sanctioned.
“I must emphasize that corrupt practices by any officer or personnel under my command will not be tolerated. Any such acts will be met with swift and decisive punitive measures, serving as a deterrent to others.
“Corruption undermines the very fabric of our mission, and I am committed to ensuring a zero-tolerance policy in this regard.
He also promised to respect human rights and handle members of the public with atmost civility.
“In carrying out our duties, human rights will be respected at all times. The police are here to protect and serve the people, and this responsibility must be exercised with the utmost respect for the
dignity and rights of every individual.
“The police under my command will uphold a high standard of civility in our interactions with the public.
“It is essential that we maintain professionalism, fairness, and impartiality in all our dealings to ensure justice for everyone, regardless of status or background.
“We will be both firm and fair, ensuring that the rule of law is upheld without discrimination or favoritism.
“I will be approachable, friendly, and accessible to the public. Building trust between the police and the community is one of my top priorities, and we will work hard to earn that trust through
openness and transparency in our actions”
He promised timely prosecution of offenders “to ensure that
justice is served promptly and fairly.”
As a way to promote excellence, he promised to motivate and reward personnel who display exemplary conduct and commitment to their duties, while bad eggs in the force will be sanctioned according.
“Misconduct of any kind by officers will be dealt with in accordance with the law. No one is above the law, and those who tarnish the image of the force will face appropriate sanctions.”
He solicited the support and cooperation of members of the public for a successful tenure in the state.
He promised to build on the achievements of his predecessor
and raising the bar.
In his farewell speech, the out-going AIG, thanked officers and men of the command for their cooperation and support which enabled him to record some remarkable successes in the state.
He urged them to extend similar support and cooperation to his successor.
Onwuemelie also charged them not to allow the resurgence of misconducts which were dealt with while he held sway.
“I expect that the challenges that I faced with the conduit of officers will not be received by the current CP. Do not try to bring back what we have stopped. Let it be progress not retrogression!
” I expect that you give him maximum cooperation better than you gave me. I don’t expect that you will make the mistakes you made during my tenure”.
AIG Onwuemelie who commended Governor Alex Otti for his massive support to the command, attributed his achievements to God’s grace, the Governor’s assistance and the cooperation of the personnel.
He noted that insecurity especially kidnapping was at its peak when he arrived the state in June 2023, but expressed satisfaction that crime wave had drastically gone down in the state.
” As at the time I arrived here, Abia was known for kidnapping especially around Lokpanta, Umunneochi, Uturu axis. But under one month, we made very strategic deployment, and today insecurity has subsided in Abia.
” I am grateful to Gov. Alex Otti who has continued to give us all round support”.
AIG Onwuemelie also commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP, for his guidance and support.
He expressed delight that he was leaving the state as a higher officer, and promised to continue to put in his best in the service.
The out-going AIG who hails from Anambra State, is widely applauded for tackling indiscriminate police roadblocks and extortion.
Senior officers and members of the management team of the command were present during the hand over ceremony at the State Police headquarters,Bende Road Umuahia.
