Rivers crisis: PDP group knocks Wike, hails BoT members over visit to Fubara
By Steve Oko
As the political crisis in Rivers State is yet to subside, pro-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP group known as PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, has lampooned the  Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, accusing him of trying to destroy the party at all costs.
The group which expressed disappointment over Wike’s role in the impasse, said “his type is a disgrace and a threat to democracy”.
It accused Wike of masterminding a media campaign  against PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and other PDP BoT members over their recent visit to Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

The group supported the recent call by Niger Delta Leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark for Wike to be expelled from the PDP.
Recall that Wabara led other PDP BoT members to Rivers on Tuesday where they solidarised with Fubara over the political crisis in the state, and assured him of the unwavering support of the party elders.
National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, who addressed newsmen in Umuahia, said Wike was shocked by the visit of the BoT members and their assurances to the Governor.
” There’s no doubt that Wike was jolted by the visit by the party elders to the Governor, hence his resort to sponsoring a media campaign through faceless hirelings calling for Senator Wabara’s sack .
He hailed PDP BoT members for their visit to Fubara which he said was borne out of genuine love and efforts to rebuild the party.
Ikpegbu who said “the visit enjoys the full support of PDP progressives across the geopolitical zones”, urged other stakeholders especially PDP Governors to unite behind the BoT members in their genuine efforts to reposition the party for landslide victory in 2027.
He further urged them to stoutly resist every attempt by “Wike and his goons to destroy PDP”.
The group which accused Wike of biting the fingers that fed him, berated the former Rivers Governor for “thinking he can still control the state after being in power for eight years.”
According to the group, the purported Wabara Must Go media campaign  by hired political urchins in Abuja, “is part of Wike’s belated antics in his desperation to negotiate his return to PDP after he has been rejected by the APC”.
He said:”Wike should be ashamed of himself that at his level, he volunteered himself to be used as a hireling against the party that made himself what he thinks he is today.
” He is a drowning  political outcast without a platform. He went to the APC and APC rejected him, now he wants to surreptitiously fight his way back to the PDP that he sabotaged.
” How does he think he can pocket everybody in PDP or make a sitting Governor his political stooge? Well I understand his desperation. He is neither in the APC nor the PDP, and that’s why he is fighting everybody on the part of the Governor just to possibly negotiate his way back to the PDP.
” But it’s too late because no political party in Nigeria today can trust Wike again. If he thinks he is that powerful, let him go and form his own political party. Very soon, it will dawn on him that he is a spent-force that will soon roll into political oblivion.
” Even the man he is following today who himself spent over 20 years to nurture and build his political structure and party that enabled him to get to where he is today will definitely not be comfortable accommodating the likes of Wike into his structure.”
Ikpegbu  further urged leaders and stakeholders of the party to unite against god-fatherism which, according to him, has been a major issue in the party.
He also advocated internal democracy as an essential ingredient that would help make PDP more attractive ahead of 2027.
” If our party deals with the octopus called god-fatherism, and ensures internal democracy, political emperors like Wike will not emerge”, he said.
