Okonjo-Iweala spotted as Otti hosts 60 America – based Nigerian physicians on medical mission

The President of the World Trade Organization, WTO, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was among the dignitaries that attended a banquet organised by Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for the visiting members of the Association of Nigeria Physicians in the Americas, ANPA, currently on a medical outreach in the state.
ANPA which arrived Abia with no fewer than 60 medical experts in different fields of medicine from America, commenced a 10-day medical mission on April 4.
The team is supported by about 100 local volunteer doctors from different parts of the country.

Speaking at the banquet held at the Banquet Hall Government House Umuahia, Governor Otti lauded ANPA for choosing Abia for its 2024 medical mission.
Describing heath as a major priority of his administration, Otti promised that he would continue to invest in the sector.
Otti expressed satisfaction over the feedbacks so far from the field, saying “they are very positive.”
Otti said:”We are very happy that you came. It’s a favour that you are doing to us. We cannot take it for granted.
“You flew from from the US, you came with equipment. The least we can do is to do our own counterpart”.
Otti assured that the Abia health sector would witness more transformation in the months ahead.
Speaking, Commissioner for Health , Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, commended members of ANPA for coming to support the efforts of the present administration in Abia state.
She said that the decision of the Otti-led administration to allocate 15% of the 2024 budget the health sector was a confirmation of the high premium the Governor placed on health.
The Commissioner also expressed delight over the successes so far recorded in the mission, saying that many surgeries have been conducted by the ANPA team.
She noted that the association had equally held trainings for medical personnel and student doctors in the state to enhance their capacity.
In her remarks, ANPA President, Dr Chinyere Anyaogu, thanked Governor Otti for the warm reception accorded to the team.
She noted that the mission was a way the Nigerian physicians practicing in the Americas decided to support health care service delivery in Nigeria.
The ANPA President noted that so many lives had been saved in different states in the country since the 30 years the association embarked on the humanitarian services.
