Gov. Alex Otti has said that he came on board to close the development divide and bridge infrastructural gap in Abia State.
Otti who made the assertion Tuesday while flagging off the 11.5 kilometer Nunyaa -Eluama Road in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, promised that no part of the state would be left behind in the on-going efforts of his administration to rebuild Abia.
This is coming less than one week after he flagged off the reconstruction of the long-abandoned 30km Abam-Ndiokereke -Arochukwu road, which is the shortest route to the Aro ancient kingdom.
The Governor who gave the completion period of the Nunyaa road project as 12 months, said it would transform the civil and socio-economic fortunes of the people, when completed.
He further said that the project was part of the general strategies of his administration to open up all rural communities in the state and link them with the urban centres.
” Every part of the state is important to our New Abia project”, Otti declared.
Governor Otti vowed to realise the glorious dreams of Abia’s founding fathers.
He further noted with delight, that insecurity which was at its peak around Isuikwuato axis when he came on board, had drastically reduced, vowing to make every part of the state very habitable.
” Isuikwuato roads are now safer than they were 10 months ago when we came on board. ”
The Governor who said that he had 30 on-going road projects in different parts of the state, assured that all of them would be delivered on record time despite the enormity of funds involved.
” I’m happy that all the projects are progressing as scheduled, and the information on my desk is that some of them will even be delivered earlier than scheduled”.
Otti charged the contractor, Chinese Construction Engineering Company, CCEC, to ensure timely completion of the project according to specifications.
He therefore, urged citizens to pay their tax regularly to enable Government effectively discharge its responsibilities.
In a remark, former Chief of Army Staff, and a prominent son of Isuikwuato, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, commended Otti for embarking on the project “which is very dear to the people”.
He lauded the developmental strides of Otti’s administration, declaring that good governance is about infrastructure and security.
The All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, who noted that Abia had never had it so well, urged the Governor to sustain the tempo.
” I’m happy that since Otti took over, I have been watching events like this. Good governance is about infrastructure and security.”
The former COAS who acknowledged that “it’s no longer business as usual”, volunteered to help in supervising the contract to ensure good quality work on the road.
Similarly, member representing Isuikwuato state constituency, Hon. Lucky Johnson (PDP); and the Mayor of Isuikwuato LGA, Air Vice Marshall Chikwendu Onyeike (retd.), thanked the Governor for coming to the rescue of the people many years after the road was abandoned.
Former Senator representing Abia North, and former Chairman of PDP in the state, Senator Emma Nwaka, also commended Otti for awarding the rehabilitation of the road which he said would help in evacuating farm produce to the urban areas.
“Every Isuikwuato person is delighted that Nnunya/Ogboro Road is one of the roads in Abia State that have received early attention in the life of Dr Alex Otti’s first tenure as the governor of Abia State.
“This Road is very important to our people, not just because it offers us easy access to Enugu/Port Harcourt Express Road but also for the fact that it will enable our farmers to evacuate their farm produce for sale in Umuahia and neighbouring states. We are grateful to the governor for this developmental project.”
The flag off attracted many dignitaries in Isuikwuato from across political divide including former military Administrator to Cross River State, Navy Capt. Chris Osondu; former Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Henry Agbaeze, Chief Ifeanyi Ogah, among a host of others.
