Abia govt to establish tuition -free school in 3 zones for skills acquisition

UMUAHIA – Abia State Government has announced plans to establish tuition -free school in each of the three senatorial zones in the state for training of youths in various skills.
Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu who disclosed this during a press briefing after the State Executive Council meeting, said it was part of conscious efforts by the Gov. Alex Otti led administration to empower Abia youths.
He explained that the school would be a boarding school and train its students in special skills like painting, solar panel installation, tiling and POP works.
The Commissioner noted that Abia had been lacking artisans with the above skills as the state had depended on artisans from other states and even foreigners, hence the Government decision to train Abians on those special skills now on high demand.
He added that the students upon graduation, would be empowered for self reliance and to enable them contribute to the growth of the state economy.
” This administration led by Gov. Otti believes in real empowerment and not tricycle empowerment. We want to make sure our youth acquire the right skills that will make them employers of labour.”
The Commissioner further announced that the monthly sanitation would not be observed in the state this month as it coincide with the formal inauguration of Geometric Power Plant Aba.
He said there would be no enforcement of the exercise on Saturday but urged residents to keep their environments clean.
The Commissioner described the proposed inauguration of the power plant to be performed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as one of the cheering things in the state.
He said that with the coming on board of the power plant, the challenges of power in the commercial city of Aba and then the entire state would be a thing of the past.
The Commissioner who said Abia State Government played key role in facilitating the coming on board of the power plant, expressed delight that gas supply to the plant from Owazza Gas Station had commenced.
Adding his voice, Commissioner for Power, Hon. Ikechukwu Monday, said Abia State Government would stop at nothing in giving the Geometric Power Plant all the needed support to succeed in the overall interest of the people.
He noted that with improved power supply in Aba, Abia economy would be revived .
The Commissioner also expressed delight that the face-off between the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC; and the Geometrics over the distribution of power to Aba, had been amicably resolved.
He said that Aba and the entire state would witness significant improvement on power supply in the months ahead.
