By Steve Oko
Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Obi Aguocha, has expressed optimism that the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, would be granted freedom today by the Supreme Court which is expected to decide on his matter this morning.
Rep Aguocha
This is as he appealed to the Supreme Court, to heed appeals by eminent individuals and groups for Kanu’s unconditional release.
According to him, Kanu’s release will totally eradicate the chronic insecurity” bedeviling the South East geo-political zone.
The lawmaker who made the appeal in a statement he personally issued Friday morning, expressed optimism that the apex court would uphold the earlier decisions of other courts that ordered for the release of the IPOB Leader.
Rep Aguocha who said that Kanu is his constituents decried the level of insecurity and tension Kanu’s continued detention against court orders had generated in the constituency and the entire South East geo-political zone.
He prayed God to prevail on the apex court to solve the debacle created by Kanu’s continued incarceration.
The statement read: “In a few hours from now, I strongly believe that God will show Himself again, gracious, faithfully, and upholding His firm belief and commitment toward my beloved constituent, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“The Supreme Court is capable of doing right by upholding the Court of Appeal Judgment and that of the lower trial court, which are in favour of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a freeborn, a freeman.
” I am extremely confident that the government of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will listen and attentive to obey the court judgement and follow the rule of law.”
He, however, appealed for calm while the outcome of Supreme Court’s judgment is being awaited.
“Umunne’m, at all times, we should remain calm, seeking to proffer lasting political and peaceful solutions to eradicate the chronic insecurity, franchise gangs of crime and criminality currently prevalent in the South East.
“With God on our side, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu shall be walking home this morning a free man.”
Several other individuals and groups including the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the World Igbo Congress, have also been appealing for Kanu’s unconditional release.
