You ‘re meddlesome interlopers, Abia guber tribunal tells Emenike, APC
By Steve Oko
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Friday dismissed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and his party, as meddlesome interlopers in their petition seeking the nullification of the victory of Gov Alex Otti of the Labour Party on the grounds that he was not validly nominated and sponsored by the LP.
The tribunal in its judgment said that “it’s now cast on iron that the issues of nomination and sponsorship of a candidate are purely a domestic affairs of a political party, and not justicable”.
According to the tribunal, Emenike is not a member of the Labour Party, hence, he lacks the locus to challenge the nomination and sponsorship of Gov Otti since he does not belong to the same party.
The tribunal held that it is only a member of a political party who participated in a primary that has right to challenge the primary in a High Court.
Labour Party.
The tribunal also held that the relief sought by Emenike to set aside Otti’s victory based on the ruling of the Kano high Court that the Labour Party did not conduct primaries, amounted to an attempt to amend his original application.
The tribunal therefore, struck out the motion for lacking in merit.
Reading of the judgment which started around 1:40pm after it resolved all the petitions by the PDP and its candidate in favour of Gov. Otti continues as at the time of filing this report.
