Abia North monarchs deny adopting Orji Kalu’s brother as consensus guber candidate for zone
By Steve Oko
Contrary to social media reports, traditional rulers in Abia North, have denied adopting the younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor and candidate of the Action Peoples Party, APP, Mr Mascot Uzor Kalu as the consensus candidate for the zone.
Eminent traditional rulers from the zone expressed bewilderment over the misleading report and distanced themselves from the said endorsement.
Dissociating himself from the purported endorsement of Kalu, Paramount Ruler of Abiriba Kingdom and Enachoken of Abiriba, Kalu Kalu Ogbu, said he was surprised that a meeting he chaired where the traditional rulers received the governorship candidate was later twisted to mean endorsement when nothing like that was discussed.
Enachioken Abiriba who spoke with Wawa News Global Saturday morning said Abia North traditional rulers never endorsed Kalu as their consensus candidate, urging members of the public to disregard the misleading report.
His words:”I attended the meeting and there was no endorsement of candidate at all.
“I chaired the meeting and endorsement was not part of our agenda.
“He (Mascot) called on us and we received him out of courtesy. To turn round and talk about endorsement is rather unfortunate.
“We support all our sons that are running for the post of governor and we call all eligible voters to turn up in their numbers to perform their civic responsibility peacefully, wisely and according to their conscience.
” On behalf of many other decent Traditional Rulers from Abia North Senatorial District, I want to personally dissociate myself from the kangaroo endorsement of Mascot Uzor Kalu as sole candidate of Abia North.”
Earlier, Eze Ogbu was said to have dismissed the purported endorsement as the height of desperation for Kalu to deceptively invite royal fathers for a meeting only to use the forum to execute such an ignoble adoption charade with the willing connivance of a traditional ruler from Ohafia.
Responding also, Eze Uwadiegwu Ogbonnaya queried the rational behind the purported adoption of the younger brother of the former occupant of the same office, especially in view of the fact that such an endorsement runs contrary to the principle of rotation of the position of governor within the zone.
While appreciating the immense benefits of a consensus candidate, Eze Ogbonnaya however condemned the process that was deployed in arriving at the said adoption of Kalu.
He stressed that Isuikwuato District deserves to be given a chance to produce the next Governor.
He therefore, charged Abians to disregard the purported endorsement and rather vote for Prof Ibe of Isuikwuato district, in order to ensure equity, fairness and justice.
