APGA demands immediate prosecution of Abia govt appointee over death threat
By Steve Oko
The All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in Abia State, has commended the Department of State Services, DSS for quizzing the Abia State Director of Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA), Mr Tony Otuonye over his murderous threats against anyone that would not vote for the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Okey Ahiwe.
APGA, however, demanded the immediate prosecution of the suspect and his accomplices, arguing that justice delayed is justice denied.
Wawa News Global had reported that Otuonye was arrested on Monday by the DSS and later granted Administrative bail after he was grilled by the Secret Police.
DSS Director in the state, Mr Friday Onuche told our Correspondent that Otuonye would be reporting daily at the DSS headquarters, adding that he is not yet off the hook.
Chairman of APGA in the state, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, in a press statement, tasked the State Police Command to begin from where the DSS had stopped by arraigning Otuonye and his cohorts before the court.
APGA expressed shock that a highly-placed appointee of the State Government like Otuonye could brazenly be spewing out murderous threats against innocent citizens.
According to APGA, immediate prosecution of Otuonye and his foot soldiers as well as sponsors will ensure a hitch-free governorship and house of assembly elections on Saturday.
APGA further called for a through investigation of allegations and counter allegations of alleged importation of armed thugs into the state for the purpose of using them to intimidate voters on Saturday.
According to APGA, if armed thugs hidden in Governor’s lodge in one of the sister states in the South East could be nabbed in a sting military operation, nothing should be left to chances.
APGA which stressed that the forthcoming elections are not worth the life of any Abian, urged security agencies to be on top of their game.
The statement encouraged Abians to troop out en mass on Saturday and freely exercise their franchise to end bad governance and era of imposition in the state.
APGA solicited the support of Abians for its governorship candidate, Professor Greg Ibe; and other candidates for a new and better Abia.
According to the statement, a vote for Professor Ibe is a vote for political emancipation, transformational government and economic growth.
It noted that the antecedents of Professor Ibe in his private capacity stand out among others jostling for the governorship position, some of who, it said were part of Abia’s predicaments.
The statement particularly appealed to the people of Abia North to understand that Professor Ibe is the only governorship candidate from the zone that has the capacity and competence to govern the state.
APGA which said it had respect for the Abia Charter of Equity that recommended power rotation among the major blocs in the state, declared that Professor Ibe’s Isuikwuato which represents the letter “I” in Abia acronym, is the bloc that should be supported to produce Governor in 2023.
