Abia: APGA guber candidate raises alarm over plots to distablise BVAS machines
By Steve Oko
Ahead of Saturday ‘s governorship and house of assembly elections, the governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia state, Prof. Greg Ibe, has raised an alarm over plots by some disgruntled elements to compromise the poll by destabilizing the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, machines.
Professor Ibe, therefore, tasked the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to ensure the credibility of the polls to redeem its public image which has diminished in the wake of the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.
The APGA governorship flag bearer charged INEC to ensure strict compliance with every operative guideline.
” I have received reliable intel that agents of other parties in the state have perfected plans to collaborate with INEC adhoc staff deployed to Abia to destabilize BVAS machines assigned to the state and thereby compromise the process.
” Let me therefore, charge INEC to do everything to protect the sanctity of the exercise by ensuring strict compliance with all operative guidelines”.
Professor Ibe commended security agencies for arresting a top Government official who was spewing out murderous threats against anyone that would vote against the candidate of the ruling PDP.
Wawa News Global had reported that the Director of Abia State Signage and Advertisement Agency, ABSAA, Tony Otuonye, was Monday quizzed by the Department of the State Services, DSS, for threatening violence in a viral video.
Professor Ibe commended the DSS for acting swiftly, and called for his immediate prosecution to ensure massive turnout of voters for the governorship and house of assembly elections.
” At the same time let me warn all political actors to play by the rules. Abians are tired of the old politics of harassment, intimidation and parochialism, and are now ready to resist any attempt to compromise the process”.
Professor Ibe appreciated God for his recent victory in the supreme court over Gen. Ijioma, stating that having recorded comprehensive victory over all trio of his contenders both at the polls and several courts, the coast is now clear for his outright triumph at the guber election.
