Enyimba thrash City FC Abuja 2:0 as pre-season tournament begins in Aba

Enyimba International, Sunday, thrashed City FC Abuja 2:0 as the 2nd edition of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu pre-season tournament opened in Aba.
In the second match, Empire Sports Academy, Umuahia were held to a 2:2 draw by Jaguar Football Academy, Okigwe.
Earlier in the opening match played at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, Supreme Kings Academy, Umuahia, crushed Jewels Academy of Aba by 3:1.
Winners of the one-week tournament will go home with N1m and a trophy, runners up, N500,000, while the 3rd position will receive N250,000.
Speaking with newsmen after the encounters, Gov Okezie Ikpeazu applauded the Nigerian Football League, describing it as one of the best in Africa.
Ikpeazu called on corporate bodies to consciously key into the sponsorship of the league as done in the West.
The Governor who was represented by his Commissioner for Sports, Hon Karibe Ojigwe, Ikpeazu said the tournament was a platform to get players in the various leagues in the country prepared ahead of the season.
“This is a platform to get the players prepared and know their fitness level before the leagues proper starts.”
He equally noted that the tournament would enable the participating clubs ascertain their level of preparedness for the coming league season.
He expressed delight that Abia State was hosting the tournament which is expected to end on November 27.
The Governor who said Abia remains the only state sponsoring four premiership clubs, restated the preparedness of his administration to invest more in sports.
Wawa News Global reports that 12 club sides are participating in the week- long tournament.
The participating clubs include Abia Warriors, Enyimba International, Sunshine State, Jewel Academy, City FC, Abuja and Apex Krane.
Others are Jaguar FC, Heartland, Empire Academy Supreme Kings, Ngwa Utd FC and Ahudiya FC, Abiriba.
