Breaking: Assemblies of God Nigeria elects new GS

Rev. Able Amadi has emerged the new General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria.
He was elected at the early hours of Wednesday during the 37th General Council meeting of the church held at Evangel Camp Okpoto, Ebonyi State.
Rev. Amadi garnered a total of 3, 232 votes to finish top ahead of the incumbent General Secretary, Rev. Godwin Amaowoh who scored 1,208 in the fourth and final round of the vote cast.
Other nominees were eliminated after the second round of the vote cast as there was ‘ no election’ following the inability of any of the nominees to secure the constitutional two third votes.
Wawa News Global which monitored the election at Okpoto reports that a total of 9,121 delegates and Ordained Ministers were accredited for the exercise but the total vote cast at the final round was 4441.
Meanwhile, the two persons with the highest number of votes cast were picked for the next round while others were dropped.
As the search for two third votes majority continued, non of them secured it until the fourth round that finally decided the contest.
Voting started around 11:00 am on Wednesday and dragged till 12:09 am on Thursday before the new GS was elected.
Vote cast for other positions in the church administration will continue when the council reconvenes around 9:00 am.
Rev. Isaac Mpamugo (retd) chaired the voting segment of the council.
The new GS, Rev. Amadi who is until his new position the Owerri East District Superintendent and South East Zone 2 Representative at the Executive Council, EC, of the church, will be taking over from the incumbent GS, Rev. Pastor Ejikeme Ejim whose will be bowing out meritoriously in December 2022.
