Abia ALGON denies rift with Ikpeazu over supply of jeeps
By Steve Oko
Abia State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, and the Executive Chairman of Obingwa LGA, Hon. Michael Ibe Nwoke, has denied any rift between ALGON and the Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The ALGON boss who made the denial while addressing newsmen in Umuahia, after the monthly Joint Account Allocation Committee, JAAC meeting, said he was quoted out of context by the social media.
Nwoke, who had last week alleged threat to his life said he had reported the alleged threat to security agencies who had also given him assurances.
The ALGON boss who flatly denied ever proposing to supply jeeps for council chairmen and their deputies said his views on the matter were misrepresented by the social media.
” I never proposed supplying cars for council chairmen at N78 million each. Nothing like that exists. The enemies want to create the wrong impression that we have issues with the state government.
” We don’t have issues at all. We requested the governor to approve vehicles for the chairmen and their deputies, and that is being processed”.
The ALGON chairman said the figures quoted on the social media were unreal.
According to him “The figures that you just mentioned are social media controversies and there’s no issues like that. Just like I have said before that we have made a request and we are waiting for response. “
“ Nobody is undermining the office of the Governor and nobody is working against the Governor. All Local governments, the seventeen of us are very very loyal to the Governor.
“One of our mandates is to support Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration and that is what we are doing.
“So, there is no controversy; there is no issue; that is why we are one body and Abia State Government is ours”.
He cautioned mischief makers to stop using the social media to instigate crisis between the council chairmen and the state government who he said had been working in harmony.
