The former Editor who was represented by the Chief of Staff to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere said the gesture was in support of the efforts of government in mitigating the harmful effects of the covid -19 lockdown on the citizenry.
Ume who is now the Managing Director of Unubiko Foundation, a non governmental organisation, regretted that journalists sacrifice so much for society without commensurate reward.
He noted that as a journalist, he understood the challenges journalists were grappling with these season besides putting their lives on the line to provide coverage on the covid-19 pandemic.
Agbazuere appealed to NUJ leadership to ensure the relief materials were equitably distributed among their members.
Responding, NUJ Chairman, Comrade John Emejor, commended the donor for the gesture which he said was the first of its kind since the pandemic started in the state.
He prayed God to shower his blessings on him, and wished him well in his endeavours.
