Covid -19: IPOB leader begins disbursement of 40,000 bags of rice, PPE, other items
By Steve Oko
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, weekend, commenced the distribution of 40,000 bags of rice, thousands of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), cartons of tomatoes, bags of onions and other stimulus packages to communities across South East and South South zones.
Flagging off the exercise in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Kanu said he was concerned about the plight of millions of vulnerable families in the region in the face of the ongoing lockdown over the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
Kanu who was represented by his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, said IPOB would spare no efforts in mitigating the harmful effects of the global pandemic on the people of the region.
He said that IPOB was determined to ensure nobody suffers hunger in “Biafra land” while the lockdown lasted.
The IPOB Leader said he was interested in saving lives of everybody living in the break-away Biafra territory “including our enemies”.
Kanu also restated the readiness of IPOB to stem the spread of coronavirus in the region, while urging residents to strictly observe the necessary protocols to avoid contracting the virus.
He said the stimulus package was for the vulnerable groups, adding that both IPOB members and non -members alike will benefit from the largess.
His words : “My concern is to make sure that humanity is preserved, kept alive and safe. I am not segregating. I am providing all I can to serve humanity”.
Kanu had earlier posted on his facebook page that :”The second batch has arrived, third batch will be delivered direct to a location in Anambra State.
” Distribution to homes and families started yesterday and will continue until all vulnerable families are fed. I am not under any illusion that this is a very tiny drop in a mighty ocean but with the help of numerous Biafran philanthropists, few conscientious politicians and grace of God, Biafrans shall come through this hunger and pestilence stronger as a people and more united as a nation.
“We must be guided by our creed at all times and remember that our ability to defend those who cannot defend themselves is what makes IPOB unique”.
According to the IPOB Leader each senatorial zone is to receive 300 bags of rice and other materials.
He identified some of the zones that have taken delivery of the largess to include Ugep, Calaber, Uyo, Obigbo, Warri, Agbor, Benin, and Igbanke.
Others, according to him were Asaba, Onitsha, Abakiliki, Owerri, Mbaise, Ikwuano/ Umuahia, and Aba.
Kanu who also promised other medical supplies and volunteer medics to combat coronavirus in the event that the pandemic breaks out in any part of “Biafra land”, assured that other zones who had not yet taken delivery of their donations would be reached in the days ahead.
“Those to receive their own next Friday are Beyelsa, Nnewi, Awka Ukwuani, Okigwe Orlu, Igala, Idoma/Igede and others who must get their own next week”, Kanu wrote on his facebook page.
Recall that the IPOB Leader in one of his recent live broadcasts announced N50 million donation to help fight covid -19 and cushion the effects of the lockdown in “Biafra land “.
