Focus on development, insecurity, leave IPOB alone, Ohanaeze tells Gov Umahi
By Steve Oko
Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has asked Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to concentrate on activities that would fast track the development of the state as well as on how to tackle the rising spate of insecurity in the state instead of dissipating energy on the harmless members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.
OYC which expressed worry over the needless waste of energy and state resources by the Governor hunting IPOB members advised him to retrace his steps.
The umbrella Igbo youths body which described IPOB members as “our beloved brothers” advised the Governor to rather fashion out ways he could partner IPOB to advance Igbo interest that treat the pro-Biafra group like outcasts of terrorist.
OYC National President, Comrade Igboayaka. O Igboayaka, according to his Media Aide, Chukwuemeka Chimerue, told Umahi to “focus concentrate on governance capable of benefiting the people of the state and South East citizens in general, rather than engaging in unhealthy fight with pro-Biafra groups.”
According to the Media Aide, Igboayaka gave the advice in Abakaliki after National stakeholders Congress of Igbo extraction which includes, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Rivers, Cross Rivers, Akwaibom, Beyelsa, Delta, Edo, Benue and Kogi
The Ohanaeze youth leader, was speaking against the backdrop of the recent pronouncement by the Ebonyi state government, banning the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, whose members recently protested against the proposed Ruga settlement in the state.
Igboayaka noted that rather than continue to add voice to some mischievous elements in the north calling for extreme measures against the pro-Biafra group, Governor Umahi should be advocating the delisting and deproscription of IPOB as a terrorist organization.
The youth leader further noted that none of the northern elites, leaders and governors had come out publicly to condemn the rampaging Fulani herdsmen marauding and maiming innocent citizens in some parts of the country neither have they spoken out in condemnation of the nefarious activities of bandits and other terrorist groups maiming innocent citizens, asking Umahi to be cautious not to throw away the baby with the bath water.
He added that IPOB members still remain our brothers and legitimate citizens in Benue, Kogi, South East and South South and rather than fight against them, the Ebonyi state governor should put more effort in improving the security situation of the state which is being threatened by Fulani herdsmen and other gun-weilding terrorists.
Ohanaeze Youth Council OYC noted that Gov. Umahi rising against IPOB is a demonstration of sabotage which will lead Ndi Igbo to rise against him, bringing discord between him and Igbo People.
OYC warned Umahi against the consequences of any further harassment and persecution of innocent IPOB members.
According to IPOB most Igbo governors have not been able to achieve for the race what IPOB has achieved within few years of its existence and.
