Information available to Wawa News Global says the traditional ruler of Obum Agbogugu, HRH Igwe Sunday Orji, and his wife have been abducted by gun men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
The monarch was kidnapped Sunday evening between Ogbaku – Umuogbe Ihe axis of the Enugu – PH Expressway.
He was on his way back to Obom Agbogwugwu after attending a Thanksgiving ceremony organized by the immediate -past member representing Awgu South state constituency at the Enugu House of Assembly, Hon Nelson Uduji.
An eye witness who escaped by the whiskers said the gun men had also opened fire on his own vehicle but he managed to escape them as he dangerously sped past the spot.
The monarch and other vehicles following him were however not as lucky as the gunmen succeeded in forcing their vehicles to a halt.
As soon as his car stopped the traditional ruler and his wife were hurriedly dragged out of their vehicle and marched into the bush by the herdsmen.
Meanwhile, a combined team of soldiers, police and local vigilantes were reportedly sighted combing the surrounding bush in the vicinity in search of the monarch and his wife.
This is coming less than 72 hours after a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu was allegedly murdered in Awgu.
The sad development has heightened tension across the Coal City state as Fulani resentment has continued to grow.
Catholic priests had Saturday, staged protests in Enugu ordering all Fulanis to quit the state.
