UNN tops Nigerian varsities, 17th in Africa

Wawa News Global can authoritatively report that the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsuka, UNN, has been ranked the best university in Nigeria based on the number of cited publications.
With a total of 108,209 publications to its credit, UNN finished first in Nigeria, 17th in Africa and 1,108 in the world.
Coming next after UNN is the University of Ibadan which ranked second in Nigeria with 86,756 citations, followed by the University of Ilorin with 74,245 citations.
Other universities in Nigeria that made the list of top five in the country are Covenant University with 55,844 citations, and the University of Lagos, 41,121 citations.
The prestigious Harvard University came first globally with 8,704,969 citations.
It was followed by the University of Cape Town which has 996,898 citations to its credit, thus finishing first in Africa.
According to Webometrics ranking tagged “Transparent Ranking: Top Universities by Citations in Top Google Scholar Profiles,” published on webometrics.info, the ranking is based on the highest number of citations from research publications.
The online research gatekeeper said the ranking was a direct measurement of quality of research output for the year.
If further revealed that among all the universities in Nigeria, only UNN made the list of the top 20 rankings in Africa.
Late nationalist, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was instrumental to the establishment of UNN with its main campus in Nsuka while its Law campus is in Enugu.
UNN also has a Teaching Hospital located at Ituku /Ozalla in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Most renown academics and eminent personalities of South East stock including a global novelist, Chimamanda Adichie ; a finance expert, Arunmma Otteh; former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, among others graduated from the prestigious institution.
