30-day ultimatum : We ‘ll massively retaliate any attack on Igbo, Ohanaeze youths tell Northern groups
* Say ‘we have learnt how to revenge’
By Steve Oko
With few days count down to the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum by a coalition of Northerner groups to the Federal Government to reverse the suspension on the controversial Ruga policy, Ohanaeze Youths Council, OYC has issued a stern warning to the North that any attack on any Igbo either within or outside Igbo land would be “massively retaliated”.
The apex Igbo youths body said gone were the days when unprovoked attacks on Igbo were overlooked, averring that “we have learnt how to revenge”.
National President of OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka in a press statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Chukwuemeka Chimerue, said nobody should take Igbo patience and tolerance as timidity.
The statement read in part :”Ndigbo will not tolerate any tribe or group of criminals to invade and spill the blood of an Igbo person in Igboland or in part of the country.
“Ndigbo will not remain silent but massively retaliate against any group or tribe that murders or slaughters any single soul of an Igbo man.
“The Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, on its part will mobilize all other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to retaliate against any tribe that will shed or kill any soul in any part of Nigeria based on ethnic bigotry or domination.
” The OYC is monitoring events in the country as the 30-day ultimatum earlier issued by these Fulani violent groups reaches its expiration.”
OYC said that “Ndigbo are the most peaceful and accommodating people on earth and have continued to remain peaceful even in the face of extreme provocation”.
The Igbo youths body, therefore, warned those beating the drum of war to watch their words and actions, saying Igbo land would not be the theatre of war again unlike the 1967 Nigeria /Biafra war.
“It is on record that the history of pogrom of 1966 and many of the tribal and religious killings and violence in Nigeria, none was caused nor masterminded by the Igbo.
“Ndigbo as peace-loving people are not in anyway against peaceful and law-abiding herdsmen but those that kill and maim citizens of their host communities and villages.”
OYC frowned at the continued influx of Fulani herdsmen into Igbo land, warning that any attempt to invade South East would be disastrous.
It also described as “thoughtless, reckless and provocative, the call by Northern Elders Forum, NEF, and Coalition of Northern Groups for Fulani herdsmen to vacate the southern part of the country and return to the north.”
“The Fulani herdsmen militia on the other hand, have been trooping into our communities in the name of cattle grazing to maim and spill innocent blood of our people without showing any remorse for their devious acts.
“Therefore, we see the call for them to return to the North as the height of insensitivity and arrogance. It also goes a long way to prove that the so-called northern elders and the insensitive and unconscionable Fulani groups were behind all the atrocities and terror being perpetrated by these Fulani herders, who have since taken delight in the orgy of killing, maiming, raping and kidnapping in the southern part of the country while the Federal Government continued to treat them with kids gloves and the serious security threat they pose, with levity.
“Therefore, in view of the foregoing, OYC is calling Ndigbo to remain alert and vigilant.
We will mobilize all other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria to retaliate any tribe that will shed or kill any soul in any part of Nigeria based on ethnic bigotry or domination. “
