Ikpeazu reads riot act to TC chairmen, deputies
* Says he has zero tolerance for corruption, as he re-appoints Okiyi as information commissioner
By Steve Oko
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said his administration has zero tolerance for corruption, insensitivity to the plight of the people and avarice.
The Governor made the declaration yesterday in Umuahia while swearing in the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu; and the newly appointed Transition Committee Chairmen for the 17 Local Government Areas and their Deputies.
Ikpeazu warned that he would not hesitate to drop any of them found wanting or at variance with his policy thrust.
” Anybody who fails to live up to expectations or serve in line with the vision of our administration will be replaced with others willing to be given the opportunity to serve “, he threatened.
He charged the appointees to live up to expectations and use their ‘second coming’ to rectify their wrongs in their first outing.
The Governor noted that their first tenure coincided with the electioneering period, but charged them to impact on their people now that the elections were over.
On why Kalu who also served as Information Commissioner in his first administration was re-assigned the same portfolio, Ikpeazu said it was because of the Commissioner’s “commitment , dedication and ability to inteprete our vision”.
In his acceptance speech, Kalu thanked the Governor for giving him the opportunity to serve again, and promised not to disappoint both the Governor and the people.
Similarly, the TC Chairman for Bende LGA, Chief Princewill Onyegbu, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues promised to replicate Ikpeazu’s strides in their various councils.
He also said they would work in harmony with their Deputies.
Later in an interview with our Correspondent , the TC Chairman for Umuahia South, Hon. Neighbour Onwukaike; and his Isuikwuato counterpart, Chima Agbaeze, respectively, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, and promised to post remarkable achievement in their LGAs.
