Sen Orji’s son emerges speaker Abia H’Assembly

The immediate -past Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, Hon Chinedum Orji, has emerged the Speaker of the 7th Abia House of Assembly.
He was elected unopposed by the 24-member law makers immediately after the House was inaugurated by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu.
The 24-member 7th Abia House is dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP which has 19 members, followed by the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA , while the All Progressive Congress, APC has two members.
The son of the immediate-past Governor and Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Theodore Orji, was first elected into the House in 2015.
Member representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, emerged the Deputy Speaker.
Other elected principal officers were : Solomon Akpulonu, Obingwa State Constituency – Majority Leader; Paul Taribo (Ukwa East, PDP) – Deputy Majority Leader; and Abraham Obah (Aba South, APGA) – Minority Leader.
Hon. Munachim Alozie (Ugwuanagbo, PDP) , emerged the Chief Whip; while the Hon. Chukwidi Apugo (Umuahia Central, PDP), was elected the Deputy Chief Whip.
Chijioke Chukwu, representing Bende North (APC) was elected Deputy Minority Leader.
In his inaugural speech, the Speaker thanked his colleagues for deeming him fit for the elevated position, and promised not to let them down.
He promised that the 7th Assembly would “be vibrant and result -oriented “, adding that “the people shall be the centre -point of all our actions and decisions”.
The Speaker further declared that ” this 7th House shall provide very sound and strong oversight functions, signifying that the era of disobeying Laws and Resolutions passed by the Abia State House of Assembly is over “.
“Similarly, the era of non-implementation of the directives and visions of the Executive, headed by our Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, is now over”.
The Speaker who is an Engineer by profession, promised to post more achievements than his two predecessors who are lawyers by training .
“Having tried lawyers, the mantle had fallen on an Engineer and by training, Engineers are known for designing and building, I will design and build for you all”.
He further promised to “support, protect and preserve the Governor’s vision and policy thrust for the state “.
The Speaker warned detractors and “the fifth columnist ” to desist from sowing the seed of discord between the members of the House and the Executive.
The 7th House was inaugurated by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu represented by the Deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu.
