Gbajabiamila can’t be trusted for Reps speakership – Ohanaeze
By Steve Oko
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has launched an onslaught against the speakership ambition of the Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, saying the All Progressive Congress, APC lawmaker “cannot be trusted”.
Ohanaeze doubted the ability of Gbajabiamilla to stand for his words, alleging he is a man of unstable character.
According to Ohanaeze, it will be a high risk to entrust a man who could easily renounce his Christian faith and convert to Islam simply to actualise his quest for power with such an important office as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In a press statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu, Ohanaeze expressed shock and dismay that the Lagos lawmaker had renounced his Christian faith and converted to Islam just in his desperation to become the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives.
” Femi Gbajabiamila, a born again Christian -turned Muslim for political reason is dangerous to our democracy”, the statement read.
It further read :” Though people have right to change their religion at will, the sudden change from a Christian to a Moslem and his umrah journey to mecca just to be speaker is a bad omen.
” Can we trust such a character who can change his faith for power sake?”Ohanaeze said.
APC has endorsed Gbajabiamila for the Speakership position but the recent intrigues and horse-trading ahead of the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly don’t seem to be in his favour any more.
Investigations revealed that many lawmakers who had hitherto queued behind him are beginning to change their minds.
According to our investigations, some lawmakers including those who had previously supported his ambition now see his emergence as a prelude to “having a rubber -stamp National Assembly that will be at the beck and call of the Executive arm”.
