I ‘ll consolidate on my  first term  achievements – Gov Ugwuanyi
From Maurice Okafor, Enugu.
The Enugu state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was Wednesday sworn in for a second term in office, has assured the people of  the State that he would consolidate on the achievements of his first term in office, in line with his administration’s  four-point agenda.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was sworn in along with his Deputy, Hon Mrs Cecelia Ezeilo by the state Chief Judge, Justice N.P. Emehelu, at the Michael Okpara square, gave the assurance in his maiden address to the people of the state.
He stressed the commitment of his administration to deploy more resources in posting  more  development in the rural areas of the state so as to curtail the rate of rural to urban migration .
He described the inauguration ceremony as a beginning of another promising journey to a better and greater Enugu state.
“This signifies a renewal of the social contract between my humble self and the good people of Enugu State”, Ugwuanyi declared amidst cheers by a mammoth crowd of supporters.
Continuing he said : “Our government shall continue to implement creative ideas, templates, and processes that will further mobilise resources to address our development needs. We will improve on oversight and reforms to reduce the cost of governance in order to deliver happiness and democracy dividends to the people of Enugu state”.
He added that his second term  administration would also  consolidate on the achievements  recorded in the education sector, health, judiciary reforms, youth empowerment, water supply, investment drive, sports, among others, to  improve the living standard of the people.

Ugwuanyi expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu state for their patience and support stating  that the economy of Enugu state was in a very bad shape when he took over the mantle of leadership  four years ago, but that his administration was able to surmount the challenges of lean resources and a national economic recession with his firm belief in God Almighty  and prudent management of resources.

He said through prudent management of resources, his administration was able to raise  Enugu state as  one of the few most solvent States, with the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) hitting its highest mark in a single year since 1999.
“Only recently, the Nigeria Extractives Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) named Enugu State as one of the eight financially stable States” Ugwuanyi stated.
Governor Ugwuanyi declared his support for local government autonomy and every step to strengthen the local government system as a third tier of government. He directed that it’s high time every stakeholder involved in the local government system should live within their respective domains to face the realities and challenges emanating from  the system.
