Abia poly to begin full academic activities at permanent site before end of 2019 – Rector

 Abia State Polytechnic Aba says full academic activities will commence at its permanent site at Osisioma  before the beginning of the 2019/2020 academic session.
The Rector  Professor Ezionye Eboh who disclosed this when he received in audience the new leadership of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists  NUJ, Abia State,  said most of the structures and facilities needed at the site were almost ready.

Professor Ezionye said that management of the institution had utilised funds it got from TETFund to put up the structures.
“Before we came on board, TETfund was already dead in here but if you go to our permanent site at Osisioma you will realise how much we have achieved with resources from TETfund,” he said.
The Rector said the major challenge before the institution was how to shore up its Internally Generated Revenues, IGR.
He said that the new management under his watch was exploring opportunities to improve on the IGR to enable it meet up with its numerous financial obligations.

On the challenge of salary arrears, the Rector said it did not start with his administration but added that he had been making spirited efforts to clear the backlog of arrears.
He said that in 2017 when he came on board he paid salary for 10 months, and another 10 months in 2018 while he had so far paid for three months in 2019.
While appealing for patience , the Rector assured staff of the institution that very soon arrears of salary would be history.
“Abia poly must bounce back under my watch “, Eboh vowed, adding that he is already partnering other institutions to improve on what he met on ground.
He said the institution was into collaboration with Leather Work Manufacturers at Ariaria to run a certificate course for the artisans so they could be proud of their products.
The Rector particularly expressed deep appreciation for  Senator Theodore Orji  as well as Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu over their synergy in the passage of the bill for the take over of the institution by the federal government.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Chairman of Correspondents Chapel,  Comrade Obinna Ibe commended the Rector for introducing new programmes in the institution particularly Mass Communication.
He said the visit was to explore areas of collaboration between the management of the institution and journalists.
 Ibe assured him full cooperation of Abia journalists as partners in progress to project the institution in good light.
