Rights activist calls for dissolution of CAN leadership over congratulatory message to Buhari
By Steve Oko
Ferry rights activist and clinical psychologist, Comrade Paul Njoku, has called for the immediate dissolution of the national leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, over the controversial courtesy visit and congratulatory message to President Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election.
National National Chairman, the Rev. Samson Ayokunle, had weekend, led some members of his Exco to congratulate Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

But saddened by the visit which has since sparked outrage among many Christians, Njoku expressed utter disappointment in the CAN leadership, saying the Exco members are on their own.
The right activist in a press statement made available to Wawa News Global accused the CAN leadership of betraying the Christian body.

Insisting that the 2019 elections were characterised by massive electoral fraud, Njoku said CAN had no moral justification to congratulate Buhari when his “purported victory” was still being contested at the tribunal.
Below is a full text of the statement :
“In my view, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, should be sanctioned, suspended and dissolved with immediate effect for congratulating Mr. President over the most deadly, controversial and mischievous elections conducted in Nigeria history under his clinical supervision. CAN has proven to be CAN of worms. They remind me of the Biblical Judas.
“I highly disagree with the Christian Association of Nigeria for congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari, who was declared the winner of the 2019 Presidential elections few weeks ago by the compromised INEC. It is a travesty of truthfulness and an abuse of due gratitude for the CAN to be untruthful and insincere to themselves by deliberately turning a black-colour to a white-colour when it was obvious that the votes of Nigerians were subverted and at the polls.
“Are they telling the World that the 2019 Presidential election was not rigged with unbridled impunity and reckless bloodshed? I am disappointed in CAN. Why didn’t they wait till the outcome of the inconclusive tribunal case before congratulating President Buhari? This is a sell out! Were they finally pressurized to congratulate Buhari? Who cursed this association? What have we done to deserve this hypocrisy?
“They are shameless and evil minded moles and traitors in white garment cloths. Some of their churches were burnt by the jihadists footsoldiers and yet they are congratulating Buhari for the stolen mandate. Don’t they know how many souls that were wasted by the security agents upon the shoot-at-sight-order issued by Mr.President during the 2019 general elections in a bid to subjugate the Nigerian voters into absolutism and malpractices?
“I am a Christian and I am of the belief that CAN President did no speak on my capacity but on his personal capacity and conviction that Buhari was reelected in a free, fair, peaceful and transparent poll. That congratulatory message is an aberration to my christian faith and sincerity.
“It is a pity that a gruesome and reckless government that lost her last strand of credibility in the last elections has obviously married CAN as a partner in her impunity and jihadic atrocities against the Nigerian people devoid of human conscience.
“A President that has been silent over the mass killings of Christians was congratulated by CAN? This is viciously unbelievable. I still cannot comprehend how the CAN President manufactured the temerity to congratulate Buhari on behalf of the oppressed and persecuted Christians in bodybags by the filthy crusaders of the baboons and the monkeys.
“May God open the eyes of the CAN President and his blind followers”.
