The outgoing Senate President , Senator Bukola Saraki, has told the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC not to kill Nigeria democracy.
Saraki who made the remark while addressing the 9th National Assembly members -elect in Abuja decried APC’s meddling in the contest for the leadership of the the 9th National Assembly.
The Senate President expressed disgust over APC’s unnecessary interference in choosing of the leadership of the 9th National Assembly.
His words : “We want to appeal to the APC not to kill democracy in the country. Leaders of the party should allow the elected lawmakers to pick their leaders.”
Saraki contended that it is provocative for the party or the even the Executive to dictate for the Legislative arm of Government how it would choose its leadership where as nobody imposes any cabinet member on the President.
“The President picks his ministers and others working with him without interference by anyone.
“He should also allow the lawmakers to elect who they want as their leaders.”
Saraki who did not win return ticket though, warned that any attempt to impose leadership on the 9th National Assembly would spell doom for democracy in the country as the legislative arm of government would be reduced to a mere rubber stamp for the executive.
