PDP wins Taraba state

The incumbent Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has been declared winner of the governorship poll held last Saturday.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate was declared winner of the contest by the state Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Shehu Iya of Moddibo Adamawa University of Technology, Yola in the early hours of Tuesday.
Ishaku polled 520,433 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Sani Danladi, who gathered 362,735 votes.
According to the results declared by INEC, former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development and governorship candidate of the United Democratic Party, UDP, Aisha Alhassan had 16, 289 votes to finish third.
Ishaku won in 12 out of the sixteen Local Government Areas in the state, while Danladi won four.
Wawa News Global reports that Taraba State since return to democratic governance in 1999 has been won consistently by the PDP.
Importantly too, religion has been a deciding factor in elections in the state.
