Breaking!!! INEC office in Akwa Ibom set ablaze
* Rights activist fumes
By Steve Oko
Reports reaching Wawa News Global say the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC in Akwa Ibom state has been set ablaze by yet to be identified arsonists.
The INEC office located at Ipisikpo in Akwa Ibom State went up in flames Friday afternoon.
Reacting to the inferno, a human rights activist, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, blamed the All Progressive Congress -led government for the incessant burning of INEC offices in Nigeria.
He said the inability of government to safeguard INEC facilities in an election season was suspicious.
“The APC government has ruthlessly adopted a new dimension of rigging and disenfranchisement by destroying the structures and assets of the Nigeria electoral umpire (INEC) where card-readers and other electoral sensitive materials are being housed.
“This historic issue of always setting ablaze the electoral materials located in various local government offices across the nation is not only cowardly and barbaric, but utterly unacceptable.
“Akwa -Ibom State has experienced high level of bloody resistance and conspiracies by the APC agents as thousands of tugs said to be APC hired miscreants were arrested by the police few days ago to cause mayhem and rig the guber poll in favour of the ruling party.
“The unbridled body languages and unlimited utterances of Senator. Godswill Akpabio and the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, have been very undemocratic and must be resisted by the concerned citizens of this country. Peoples choices and consciences must be respected at polls.
“Ipisikpo is governor (former) Victor Attah’s Local government area. It is reported that over 99 card readers were lost to the arson being a design to postpone the election in the State in order to give it an Osun Template of vicious and conscious rigging.
“Does it mean that our security agents are aiding and protecting these arsonists? Where are the police and army who are deployed to protect the INEC institution, lives and property of Nigerians?
“Are our security agents at sleep by acting the the evil script? Why is APC so desperate to win elections at all costs? Is President Muhammadu Buhari and his protégés not aware of this state of outright anarchy and impunity?
I therefore call on Akwaibomites, concerned Nigerians and international community to be wary of the looming state of genocide in Akwa Ibom State and beyond by the desperate ruling party which is hell bent to retaining power to the detriment of the Nigerian choices.
” Any further attempt to demean our collective sensibilities with brutal force must be resisted and defended”.
