Abia SDP suspends 17 LGA chairmen for adopting Ikpeazu

The Abia State chapter of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has suspended the Chairmen of the party in the 17 Local Government Areas for purportedly adopting Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Chairman of SDP in Abia, Hon. Chidi Nwosu who announced the suspension Wednesday at the party secretariat in Umuahia, said the action of the suspended LGA chairmen amounted to anti-party activity.
Reading from an 11-point communique reached after an emergency expanded State Working Committee meeting of the party, Nwosu said the party would not allow traitors to undermine its chances at the polls.
He dissociated SDP from the purported endorsement of Ikpeazu, insisting that the governorhip candidate of the party is very much in the race.
The party chairman also announced the outright expulsion of one Chuks Abengowe “for impersonation as the party’s State Organising Secretary which he is not “.
Nwosu directed the Deputy Chairmen of the party at the various LGAs to take over from the suspended chairmen in acting capacity.
He said seven -man disciplinary committee had been set up to further investigate the activities of the suspended chairmen and recommend appreciate sanctions.
Nwosu expressed shock at the action of the erring members, accusing them of collecting N5 million from Ikpeazu to sabotage the party.
” The Chairmen have placed personal above and higher than the interest of Abians by considering financial gains from other political party against the interest of our party “,Nwosu fumed.
He said that disciplinary action taken against the erring members were taken at the expanded meeting of the State Working Committee of the party in consultation with the national leadership of the party.
He equally accused the suspended chairmen of making frivolous financial demands from the governorship candidate of the party, Hon. Blessing Nwagba.
Nwosu expressed sadness over the resolve of the suspended chairmen to “take a unilateral decision contrary to the position of our party at the national and Abia State chapter “.
