Despite complaints of backlog of salary arrears by Abia workers, civil servants in the state, Wednesday, donated a vehicle to Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu to support his re-election bid.
Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamah made the donation on behalf of the workers during a parley with the Governor at the Civil Servants Secretariat, Umuahia.
The Head of Service assured Ikpeazu of the loyalty and continued support of workers.
He therefore, assured civil servants that with Governor Ikpeazu, “it is a new beginning for the Service.”
He assured that the civil servants would receive their salary alerts by tomorrow (Thursday) as well as 2017 Leave allowance for those who were yet to receive theirs.
While the state government has maintained that core civil servants are paid up to date, public servants and pensioners have complained of accumulated salary and pension arrears, some running up to six months.
Responding, Gov. Ikpeazu thanked the workers for the gesture and assured them of better welfare package.
The Governor announced N10 million cash donation to the civil servants.
Ikpeazu called on them to continue to sustain his developmental agenda in the state by voting massively for him and other candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming elections.
He thanked the civil servants for their support to his administration without which “much would not have been achieved”.
The Governor commended the civil servants for their ingenuity, describing them as the engine house of his administration.
He assured the workers that the Secretariat would be given a facelift, with the restoration of regular light and water as well as fixing the elevators in the new Secretariat buildings.
Ikpeazu urged them to remain supportive to his administration , arguing that Abia workers are safer in the PDP government.
Speaking also, the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu thanked the civil servants for the kind of support the administration enjoys with the them.
According to him, with the kind of love shown by the civil servants on the government, he can go home and relax as the civil servants would ensure Dr Ikpeazu is re-elected.
