Kidney disease : Aba residents to enjoy free screening

Residents of Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State will enjoy free screening for kidney related diseases .
The gesture is courtesy of an emerging Kidney Specialist Centre in the state – the Beatitudes Kidney and Dialysis Centre, Umuahia.
According to a release from the management of the centre, the four -day exercise will hold at St. Paul’s Hospital Umungasi Aba, from Monday, February 25 to Thursday.
The screening starts from 9:0.a
m to 3:00pm each day.
According to the release, the exercise will also feature free lectures on diet for kidney as well as prevention and treatment of kidney ailments .
The Chief Medical Director of the Centre, Dr. Chimezie Okwuonu, a consultant told Wawa News Global that the gesture was part of his contributions towards curbing the rising cases of kidney diseases in Nigeria.
Decrying the prevalence of kidney related ailments in the country, Okwuonu enjoined Aba residents to take advantage of the opportunity to ascertain the condition of their kidneys.
He however, said that contrary to beliefs in many quarters, kidney diseases are curerable .
Okwuonu submitted that early detection and treatment are very vital for survival .
