Hon. Sam Onuigbo representing Ikwuano /Umuahia federal constituency has been declared winner of the February 23, national assembly poll in the constituency.
Onuigbo polled a total of 30,669 votes to emerge winner of the contest while his closest rival, Mr. Ikechukwu Apugo of the All Progressive Congress, APC, scored 23,279 votes.
Candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Mac-Donald Uba came a distant third with 10,312 votes.
The Returning Officer for the constituency, Professor Georgina Ugwuanyi of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, who declared the result, declared Onuigbo winner of the contest “having scored the highest total number of voters “.
Meanwhile, the APC agent, Mr. Joshua Ogbonna, refused to sign the result and called for the total cancellation of both the presidential and national assembly elections in Abia Central, alleging fraud.
Ogbonna accused the PDP of manipulating the outcome of the polls, and urged the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct a fresh election in the zone.
But in a swift response, Comrade Lucky Akabuike said the election was not only free and fair but credible.
He disagreed with the APC agent that the poll was rigged, alleging that it was APC that rather attempted to rig but was stoutly resisted by the people.
Akabuike urged APC to accept defeat in good faith, saying APC has been rejected by Abians.
He advised him to through support for Onuigbo who he said had been “divinely ordained to represent the people now “.
