Breaking!!! Abia Central senatorial race : Sen Orji in early lead

Results of the Abia Central senatorial race so far declared indicate that Senator Theodore Orji is in the early lead.
Orji swept the polls in Osisioma and Ikwuano Local Government Areas.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate polled 5,849 votes in Osisioma LGA to emerge victorious.
His closest rival, Chief Chidi Ajaegbu of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, scored 3,802 votes to come second, while Senator Nkechi Nwogu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, came third with 2086.
Osisioma has always been the deciding LGA in the zone and the home council of Nwogu where she had been expected to win but lost to the PDP candidate according to the declared figures.
The total number of registered voters in Osisioma is 142,193 out of which only 13,202 turned up for the polls according to the results declared.
Senator Orji also swept Ikwuano LGA with 6,052 votes while Nwogu of APC came second with 3,948 votes. APGA candidate garnered 2,014 votes to place third.
Ikwuano has a total of 6,9619 registerd voters but only 13,558 voters participated in the exercise according to the statistics at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC office at Adelabu Street which serves as the senatorial collation centre for the zone.
The Returning Officer, Professor Ndukaku Yusuf Omeh of the Michael Okpara University Umudike told our correspondent that results from other LGAs were still being awaited.
Elections are still going on in a number of polling units in Umuahia North LGA where Senator Orji hails from.
