Kalu should be interrogated over boasts that INEC, security agencies ‘re in his pocket, Sen Ohuabunwa cries out
From Steve Oko, Umuahia
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa representing Abia North senatorial district has raised alarm over alleged plot by former Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu to rig the forthcoming polls in the zone.
Ohuabunwa, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alleged that Kalu who is the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, has been publicly bragging that he already knew the outcome of the polls.
Addressing newsmen Tuesday in Umuahia, Ohuabunwa called for the immediate interrogation of Kanu for allegedly “boasting that he has the army, police and INEC in his pocket”.
Ohuabunwa expressed concern that a candidate would be brazenly boasting of how he would rig the polls and the security agencies will not invite him for questioning.
He accused him of boasting to win the election with “federal might “.
His words : “Kalu has not been campaigning, rather he has been bragging that he has the INEC, the Army and Police in his pocket.
“Kalu even said that the DIG Anthony Ogbizi in charge of South East was sent to deliver him.
“He said he had concluded with the military to station an Amourd tank in front of my house on the election day.
“I also heard some thumb-printed ballot papers were found in his house before the polls were postponed.
“Kalu has also been bragging that he has the list of all the Electoral and Returning officers from MOUA “.
Senator Ohuabunwa said he had already made a verbal protest to both the Commissioner of Police and the Army Commander in Ohafia, and had directed his lawyers to formalise the complaint.
He said though he was not jittery over the “rantings of Kalu “, he needed to cry out because he knew the antecedents of the former Governor.
“I know his antics that is why I am shouting. Intimidation and rigging have been his stock in trade “.
The Senator said that in 2007 voting was still going on in the state when Abia result was announced , alleging he forged the results.
He insisted that all the sensitive INEC materials distributed before last week’s postponed poll must be scrutinised by all party agents before they would be used in the forthcoming polls.
Ohuabunwa threatened not to accept the result of the election if it is not the true reflection of the voting at the polling units.
“We won’t accept any ballot paper that is not customised according to units. Any result that is not a product of units won’t be accepted “.
Ohuabunwa, however, urged voters not to be intimidated but come out enmass for the polls, vote and defend their ballots.
When contacted, Kalu denied the allegations, describing them as “pure fallacy and coming from a drowning man who knows that his time at the senate is over”.
Kalu who spoke through his Media Aide, Maduka Okoro, said the former governor “is not in control of the military nor the police and couldn’t have made the remarks credited to him.”
“Ohuabunwa should face his campaign and leave me alone as we will meet on the Election Day”.
