Youths in Ibeku ancient kingdom of Umuahia North Local Government Area have vowed to deliver Senator Theodore Orji at the February 16 National Assembly poll.
The youths who thronged out Wednesday in their numbers to the Ojike street Umuahia constituency office of the senator declared their total support for the former Governor.
They apologised to Orji for not giving him their full support in 2015 but said they had learnt their lessons.
The youths regretted that Orji’s good gestures were not reciprocated by his kinsmen in 2015 but noted that despite their lack of support to the senator then, he was able to triumph.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, the National President of Ibeku Youths Association, Mr. Fidelis Akwukwaegbu, appealed to Orji to forgive them for abandoning him in 2015.
He said they would never repeat such a mistake having now realised that Orji is truly their own.
Akwukwaegbu who was flanked by the President Generals of the seven communities in Ibeku said Ibeku people would not allow a stranger to unseat their kinsman.
Orji’s major challenger at the poll is Nkechi Wogu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, who is from Osisioma LGA.
“We are ready to die for you, we will vote for you and stay back to defend our vote “, he declared.
In a remark, Deacon Okey Onyemuwa said Ibeku people had all resolved not to allow the senatorial seat to elude Ibeku land.
He later handed a cutlass to Orji on behalf of the youths symbolising empowerment for battle .
Similarly, the Chairman of Board of Internal Revenue, Dr. Udochukwu Ogbonna, described Orji as a political leader not just in Ibeku land but the entire state who deserves the loyalty and support of his people.
Responding, Senator Orji thanked the youths for the solidarity which, he noted was unprecedented, saying he is overwhelmed.
Orji also thanked the youths for realising their mistake and for resolving to throw their weight behind their own.
” This is the age of reasoning. You have to stand behind your own.”
He urged them to vote massively for him and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections .
Orji recalled that while he was Governor he impacted many lives including his Ibeku people but regretted that some paid him back with the wrong coin.
