Empowerment, real essence of governance – Sen Orji

Former Governor of Abia State and the senator representing Abia Central zone, Senator Theodore Orji, has said that the real essence of governance is to empower people for self reliance.



Orji stated this Thursday, in his Umuahia constituency office when he received in audience, 45 youths from his constituency who he sponsored to the National Center for Agricultural Mechanisation, Ilorin, Kwara State, for special training in modern farming.
He said he always felt pained to watch youths idling away, hence, his resolve to empower them through acquisition of knowledge in morder farming so they could earn a decent living.



Orji who said he placed high premium on youth empowerment even while he was Governor, posited that if youths were meaningfully engaged society would be a safer place.
The Senator who noted that a number of youths in his constituency had benefited from his numerous empowerment programmes including scholarship scheme, vowed to continue to use his privileged position to better the lot of his people.
He, therefore, urged the youths to apply the knowledge they acquired and earn a living for themselves and also help to empower others.
Senator Orji also urged them to support his re-election bid, promising to do more for the zone if re-elected.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries , Mr. Ahamefula Orji, thanked the senator for the gesture and promised to reciprocate it by putting the knowledge to good use.
He promised to take more youths out of the labour market by creating job opportunities for them through commercial farming.
Some of the special areas of their training include poultry, piggery, fishery, among others.
