Onnoghen : Buhari has murdered , buried Nigerian democracy – Activist
By Steve Oko
Rights activist, Comrade Paul Njoku, has lampooned President Muhammadu Buhari for suspending the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Waltar Onnoghen without legislative backup.
The rights activist accused Buhari of murdering and burying Nigeria democracy by such unilateral action .
Njoku in a statement Saturday warned Buhari of the grave implication of his action particularly as the elections gather momentum.
Bellow is a full text of the statement :
“The e Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, is not a court but an administrative tribunal under the executive arm of government. The CCT Chairman, Mr. Dalandi Umar, is not a judge though performs quasi-judicial functions. The CCB and the CCT are under the supervision of the Secretary to the government of the Federation. By illegally and purportedly removing or sacking the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, for Ibrahim Tanko, Buhari has murdered and suspended our democracy. Mr.President has deeply demonstrated tyranny and dictatorship of the highest impunity and recklessness.
“What Buhari has done as the head of the executive is to use an organ of the executive to remove the head of the judiciary which is clearly a reckless abuse of executive powers and every Nigerian who cares about the survival of Nigeria beyond the 2019 must rise against this illegality.
