More troubles for Ikpeazu, Umahi as IPOB insists on stopping their re-election bid
From Steve Oko, Umuahia
The re-election bid of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and his Ebonyi State counterpart, seems to be hanging on the balance following a renewed threat by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, to stop them.
IPOB has consistently vowed to boycott the forthcoming elections until weekend when its Leader, Nnamdi kanu said the boycott could be relaxed in Abia and Ebonyi respectively provided Ikpeazu and Umahi did not return to power.
The pro-Biafra group accused both Governors of conniving with the North against Igbo interest.
IPOB alleged that Umahi had turned into a puppet for the Presidency in his desperation to actualise President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election with the “empty promise he will succeed him in 2023”.
According to a statement issued Tuesday by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, “Ikpeazu and Umahi must go as a reward for their anti Igbo activities”.
“Our resolve to ensure Okezie Ikpeazu and David Umahi failure during this coming election must be enforced no matter the level of propaganda, abductions, arrests, humiliation, intimidation and killings of innocent citizens of Biafra.
“Those seeking to deflect our attention from removing Umahi and Ikpeazu are wasting their time because their complicity in bringing Operation Python Dance to our land is an unpardonable atrocity against our land and God in heaven”, IPOB thundered.
“Any body in support of Umahi and Okezie Ikpeazu will be seen as a supporter of the killing of IPOB family members which in turn will make that person an enemy of the people”. IPOB added.
IPOB however noted that their position to boycott the elections had not changed except in Abia and Ebonyi where their members must ensure the Governors are stopped even if it entails participating in the poll.
“We shall boycott the forthcoming presidential elections and every other with the notable exception of Abia and Ebonyi where the incumbents, Okezie Ikpeazu and Dave Umahi are using their positions to facilitate the kidnapping, arrest, torture and execution of our people”, IPOB vowed.
IPOB explained that contrary to the misconception in some quarters its decision against both Governors did not in any way suggest it had backed down in its earlier position.
“This recent misconception by some individuals who intend to have Umahi and Ikpeazu return to office, will never deter us because they don’t exist in the real world.
“They only inhabit the realm of gossip. The decision by IPOB to shutdown Biafraland on the election day has gone far and cannot be changed or stopped unless our terms are met.
“From next month Okezie Ikpeazu, David Umahi and co will realize and understand that IPOB movement is rooted in every clan and community in Biafraland.”
IPOB said that no amount of propaganda or blackmail would make it back trace on the election boycott especially the presidential poll.
“People are at liberty to twist, fabricate and misunderstand IPOB but the people of Biafra understand clearly where we are going. We will continue to deploy all forms of civil disobedience, most notably boycott of every Nigerian election until they give us date for Biafra referendum.
“Our aim towards achieving this goal and desire cannot be truncated . Our decision to shutdown Biafraland on 16th of February is sacrosanct.”
