ABSU set to install Tor Tiv as new chancellor, honour former COAS Ihejirika, Enweremadu
. As VC denies obtaining bank loan

The Tor Tiv V, His Royal Majesty Professor James Anyatse is to be installed as the new Chancellor of the Abia State University Uturu, ABSU during its 26th Convocation ceremony slated for Saturday.
Vice – Chancellor Professor Uche Ikonne, who disclosed this during a pre-convocation press briefing Monday at the university also said former Chief of Army Staff, COAS. Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika would also be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree.
According to the VC a foremost monarch, HRM, Eze Benard Enweremadu is also to be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree.
The VC said no fewer than 18 out of the 4153 students due for graduation on Saturday made First Class.
He said that 551 made Second Class Upper while 2532 made Second Class Lower.
According to him, 365 made 3rd Class while seven made ordinary Pass.
Others include :”Medicine &Surgery, 203 ; 52 Postgraduate, and 115 Ph. D “
Reacting to a question, Ikonne dismissed as cheap propaganda and a tissue of lies, insinuations in some quarters that he had borrowed heavily from banks to keep the institution afloat.
He said enemies of the university and those envious of his achievements and ‘change mantra ‘ were behind such rumour, and urged members of the public to disregard it.
Ikonne said his prudence in financial management was the secrete of the great successes witnessed in the institution.
The former Rector Abia State Polytechnic Aba said he had not obtained any bank loan to run the university and challenged anybody with contrary view to provide evedience.
Ikonne who has literally transformed the university since he came on board three years ago promised to sustain the tempo of development until the end of his tenure.
The VC said the university had secured 38 funded research topics.
