Buhari lacks business idea needed to fix Nigeria economy – Peter Obi
By Steve Oko
The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi, has avered that the reason President Muhammadu Buhari “cannot fix the Nigeria economy is because he lacks business ideas “.
Obi who made the remarks while addressing Aba business community said Buhari had never done any success business, and lacks the preliquisite business knowledge to effectively run the Nigeria economy.
The former Anambra State Governor said Nigeria’s economy was in bad shape because Buhari who is piloting the affairs of the country has never successfully handled any business.
Obi urged Nigerians to give Atiku Abubakar chance to navigate the country out of the woods based on his vast economic knowledge.
His words : ” Buhari has never done any success business. He lacks knowledge of any business.
” If you have created wealth you will know how to manage wealth. But if you cannot create wealth you cannot manage wealth.
“Atiku has been a business man. He has created wealth and employed people. He has all it takes to rescue Nigeria from economic doldrums.”
Obi said one of the major reasons Nigeria had slidded into poverty was because the Buhari administration “killed manufacturing ” through poor economic policies.
The former banker lamented that where as the manufacturing sector contributed 23% of Nigeria’s economic growth in the 80s, it now accounts for only paltry eight per cent.
Obi mocked Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for distributing N10,000 “trader money” to traders, saying the gesture is a mockery to traders.
He said such loan could not afford half bag of local rice and wondered how it could turn around the fortunes of traders.
Obi said Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha and Uyo remained the fasted -growing economies in Nigeria because of the preponderance of entrepreneurs and Small and Medium Enterprises in them.
He said SMEs would be given serious attention under the administration of Atiku.
” It is hard now to give loans to SMEs but under the watch of Atiku, SMEs will not be looking for loans rather loans will be looking for SMEs. “
He also condemned the Abia State Government for the concept of Enyimba Economic City, and challenged the federal government to fully key into the project, which, according to him, is capable of restarting Nigeria’s economy if fully realised.
