2019: SGF gives condition for S’East to produce senate president

. Reveals what Igbo leaders told Buhari

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha, has hinted that the South East geopolitical zone would produce the Senate President in 2019 but on the condition that the zone delivers President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mustapha who stated this in Umuahia, Abia State while speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the Presidential Support Committee, PSC, South East zone, said the political fortunes of Ndigbo would be determined by how they vote in 2019.

The SGF who was represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters and the facilitator of PSC, Rt. Hon. Gideon Sammani, revealed that the senate Presidency eluded the South East zone in 2015 because of the zone’s little support for Buhari.

He, therefore, said the zone would produce the senate President in 2019 if they help to deliver Buhari so that the APC retains its position as the ruling government at the centre.

The SGF, however, noted with delight that unlike 2015 , Buhari is already enjoying massive support from South East ahead of the 2019 polls.

He revealed that political leaders including monarchs from the zone had in their various meetings with the President, assured him of total support of Ndigbo come 2019.

The SGF said that going by the assurances of the Igbo leaders, Buhari is optimistic of 5 million votes from South East in 2019 unlike the paltry 200,000 he garnered from the zone in 2015.

Mustapha further explained that “Buhari is not a hater of Igbo as the people were made to believe in 2015”, while urging Ndigbo to support the President so they could get the Presidency in 2023 with the support of the North (Buhari’s people).

” Power is not given but fought for and negotiated. If Ndigbo show full support for Buhari and APC in 2019 they can use the result and evidence of performance to bargain for power in 2023″.

The SGF who said Buhari had contrary to belief, appointed some Igbo into key positions in his administration, restated Buhari’s committment to complete the 2nd Niger bridge.

He also said Buhari was fully committed to the on-going rehabilitation of major roads in the country as well as the anti graft war.

Earlier in his remarks, the South East Coordinator of PSC, Hon. Chamberline Adiaso, said Buhari had performed creditably to deserve a second tenure.

He said having Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023 could only be realised “if Ndigbo stick to Buhari in 2019”.

Adiaso said the chances of Igbo producing the President in 2023 were so bright and realisable in APC than any other party.

He said that group would embark on aggressive door -to-door campaign across South East to canvass support for Buhari and to disabuse the minds of the people on the propaganda by the opposition that Buhari is anti -Igbo.

Highlight of the event was the inauguration of the zonal and state executives of the group.
