Media team appointment : Abia journalist disowns Ogah’s campaign organisation

Abia -based journalist and the Correspondent of The Nigerian Pilot, Comrade Obinna Ibe, has totally dissociated himself from his “purported appointment” as a member of the Media Team of the Campaign Organisation of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Dr. Uche Ogah.
Ibe, who is also the Chairman of the the state chapter of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, said he was not consulted before the “purported appointment ” was made.
A local radio station had on Wednesday announced the members of various sub-committees of the Campaign Organisation appointed by the Director General of the Organisation, Kingsley Ugbaja.
But in a strongly-worded press release made available to newsmen on Thursday, Ibe warned the Organisation to immediately retract the announcement, maintaining that as a practising journalist he should not be partisan in keeping with the ethics of the profession.
He demanded an unreserved apology from the Organisation for “the embarrassment”, and threatened legal action should the Organisation fail to do the needful on record time.
The release read in full :”
“My attention has been drawn to the purported announcement from Uche Ogah Campaign Organisation to the effect that I am a member of their Media and Publicity Committee.
“Let me put the records straight that I was not consulted nor my approval sought before going to Vision Africa Radio to announce my name as a member of their media team.
“As the Chairman of Correspondents Chapel of Abia NUJ i am not supposed to play politics and it is unethical for a practising Journalist with a medium to belong to any campaign organization.
“Doing so will betray the neutrality to all parties which is the hallmark of objective, balanced and responsible journalism.
“But even if you want to include somebody’s name, the right thing is to first contact the person and get his approval. In this circumstance my approval was not sought before going to press.
“I hereby call on the Uche Ogah campaign organization to remove my name from the purported list sent out and tender apology using same medium/media otherwise I will be compelled to take legal action for such embarrassment.
