‘Cover-up’ : Nnamdi kanu reveals why Nigerian ‘diplomat was assainated in Sudan’
By Steve Oko
Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi kanu, has claimed that the assassination of a Nigerian diplomat, Habibu Almu, in Sudan, might not be unconnected with, perhaps, what he knew about the “impostor “.
Kanu in a statement made available to newsmen claimed that those behind the fraud might have involved the late diplomat in recruiting the alleged ‘double ‘ and decided to get rid of him afterwards so as to clean up any possible trace of the heinous crime.
Almu, an Immigration attaché at the Nigerian Mission in Khartoum, was found dead in his home in Sudan, in May, 2018.
The father of five had left Katsina for Khartoum three days after spending a week in Abuja before the tragic incident.
Sudanese Police spokesman Omar al-Mokhtar, had said investigations revealed Almu was stabbed to death.
Police had also ruled out the possibility that the act was a terrorist attack, according to Reuters.
Reuters cited al-Arabiya television of Dubai to have identified the diplomat and described his death as an “assassination’’.
Mokhtar said police had arrested several suspects, but provided no further details.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also confirmed Almu’s death.
Spokesman of the Ministry, Tope Elias-Fatile, in a WhatsApp message, said “The Ministry has received the sad news of the untimely death of the Immigration Attaché in our Mission in Khartoum, Sudan.”
He said the ministry was awaiting further report from the mission in Sudan after which detailed information would be provided.
But Kanu has linked the tragedy to the alleged “cover up” by a cabal to “impose a fake ruler” on Nigeria.
The IPOB Leader who has persistently claimed “a double ” is in charge of the affairs of the country said those behind the fraud might have some facts about the death of the diplomat.
His words :”I call him the man that knew too much. He may have been involved in the recruitment and preparation of authentic documents for the transformation of Jubril Aminu Al-Sudani to …. He was murdered by the cabal to cover up how Jubril was recruited.
“International media investigated and ruled out terrorism or local crime. They specifically said it was an assassination. By assassination they meant that somebody or some people ordered the hit.
“This is the first time a Nigerian diplomat has been assassinated abroad and surprisingly it was in Sudan. No wonder it wasn’t difficult for them to go after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to assassinate him too for exposing their secret.
“Since Nigerian journalists and reporters have refused to do their job by properly investigating this crime, IPOB Intelligence shall do it for the benefit of all.”
Wawa News Global, could however, not independently verify the authenticity of Kanu’s claims but pro government sources have urged Nigerians to ignore him.
Just yesterday, a group accused the opposition of sponsoring the ‘fake president’ narrative to deceive gullible Nigerians and blackmail the President.
The group specifically said the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP , was behind the rumour which has since gone viral on the social media , alleging it is part of PDP’s strategy and propaganda to return to power in 2019.
