Rights group condemns search of Atiku’s aircraft

A human rights organization known as the “PEOPLES RIGHTS ORGANIZATION” has condemned what it called “the outright invasion” and search of the staff and aircraft belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar upon his arrival from Dubia.
The spokesman of the group, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, described it “as a macabre of overzealousness and gross intimidation by the ruling party against Atiku Abubakar and other opposition parties”.
He said it was a sign of fear by the ruling party over Atiku’s rising popularity
“The ruling party has been jittering and panicking since Atiku Abubakar emerged as the PDP presidential flag bearer.
“His trip to Dubia obviously put the ruling party to insomnia and hence the arrogant harassment upon his advent back home.
“The unusual security watch and concentration on Atiku is occasioned with filth and complex.
“In as much as a routine search should be diligently carried out by the security operatives at the airport on any passenger onboard and upon arrival, we query the Buhari-led Federal Government, why the stern- looking team of Army, Police, Customs and Immigration officers were deployed to unusually search only one man if not to harass, intimidate and breakdown his human person and psychology.
” Nigerians are astonished by this sudden surveillance and search on Atiku who has been embarking on foreign trips in his private jet before becoming the flag bearer of a political party devoid of ruthless security invasion and suspicious search.
“No Nigerian deserves to be unduly intimidated and harassed by the security operatives bond on malice. This must not respect itself again.”
He said President Buhari should emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan “and learn to be civilized as a father of the nation”.
“By this singular act of intimidation against the PDP presidential flag bearer, it is obvious that the APC government is afraid of other opposition parties in Nigeria due to the fact that the government has abysmally and shamelessly failed the Nigerian people.”
The activist reminded the APC-led government of their campaign promises and charged them to tell Nigerians why they reneged on their “change” promise.
“The APC government has completely reneged on all their empty campaign promises. They have forgotten how they literally promised to turn water into wine and stone into bread if voted into power in 2015.
“Enticed by a grandiose and mouth watering campaign of better life in 2015 encapsulated under the party of ‘change’, Nigerians ‘voted’ Buhari as president simply because they had amongst other things promised to generate, transmit and distribute at least 20, 000mw of electricity with a view to achieving 24/7 uninterrupted power, an employment scheme to employ 740,000 graduates across the 36 States and the FCT and creation of three million jobs per year.
“Nigerians will never forget how the APC government scammed Nigerians by promising to make the Nigerian economy one of the fastest-growing emerging economies in the World with a real GDP growth averaging 10% annually and to create a social welfare programme of atleast five thousand naira (N5,000) that will cater for the 25 million poorest and most vulnerable citizens upon the demonstration of children’s enrollment in school and evidence of immunization to help promote family stability.
“The party also promised to boost security by recruiting and training atleast 100,000 officers into the Nigerian Police Force and establish a federal anti-terrorism agency. It also pledged to give one free meal daily to public primary school pupils across the country and to fight corruption and Boko Haram in the country to standstill and of course bring back all the chibok girls very safely. I can go on and on.
“We therefore urge this government to stop intimidating Atiku and other dissenting opposition voices and face their abysmal failures and incompetence.”
End.
