The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged the Inspection General of Police, Abubakar Idris, to , as a matter of urgency, fish out those behind the assassination attempt on the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
Ohanaeze Youths Council, OYC , in a press release Tuesday described the incident as an assault on the Igbo race.
Acting National President of OYC, Dr. Kingsley Dozie who personally signed the released also expressed schock at the alleged delay by the police in responding to a distress call by Ekweremadu during the attack.
OYC said the assailants and their sponsors must be brought to book.
The release read in part : “The National leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths worldwide calls on Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to urgently fish out those behind the plan assassination of our Dear Son and Leader, Sen.Ike Ekweremadu.
“We are disappointed on the late response and time taken by the Nigeria police when they were immediately contacted on the planned assassination of Distinguished Senator Ike. Ekwerenmadu.
“We believe Nigeria police are not partisan in discharging their roles of saving lives and properties.
“We equally call on other security agencies to step on their investigation to bring perpetrator to book.”
OYC, however appreciated God for saving the life of Ekweremadu.
Ekweremadu’s Abuja residence was about 4am Tuesday invaded by gun men who forcefully gained entry into the compound and forced his son to take him to where his father was.
His Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu who confirmed it to Wawa News Global said one of the suspected assassins was apprehended following a struggle in Ekweremadu’s bedroom.
