Authority man, Steve Oko emerges Abia NUJ Correspondents chapel scribe
The Abia State Correspondent of The AUTHORITY Newspapers, Steve Oko, Wednesday, emerged the Secretary of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State.
Oko, who had variously served as Treasurer and Financial Secretary of the chapel was elected unopposed as he was the sole candidate for the position.
The former Champion Correspondent, and The PUNCH Stringer before joining The AUTHOURITY in 2015 is also the Publisher of an emerging online blog, Wawa News Global.
Journalist Obinna Ibe of the Nigerian Pilot was elected the Chairman of the Chapel.
He succeeded Comrade Emmanuel Ugwu of THISDAY Newspapers whose two tenure of six years expired last month.
The three year -tenure for the new executive will end in October 2021.
Other officers who emerged at the congress were : Linus Effiong of Daily Trust, Treasurer ; Prince Jenarus Ezeru of Announcer Express, Vice Chairman; and Henrietta Ashikodi of The Statesman, Assistant Secretary.
Lawrence Nwokedi of Radio Nigeria was elected the Auditor , while Gospel Adiele of Business News emerged the Financial Secretary.
The election was supervised by the Abia NUJ Chairman, Comrade John Emejor who described the exercise as credible and very transparent.
He congratulated the new officers and urged them to strive to take the chapel to greater heights.
In his acceptance speech, Ibe thanked the members for giving him the opportunity to serve and promised not to fail them.
He identified accountability, improvement of members’ welfare and war against quackery as the focal points of his administration.
