My detractors behind rumour of my alleged defection to APC – Ekweremadu .
Denies any plan to dump PDP
By Steve Oko
Deputy Senate President and the South East Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has said that his political enemies are behind the rumour of his alleged plans to defect to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
Ekweremadu who stated this in a press statement issued Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, denied any plans to dump PDP.
Rumour mills including the social media are awash with reports that Ekweremadu is at the verge of dumping PDP over the alleged cold treatment meted to him by some power hawks trying to hijack the party since after the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.
But Ekweremadu in the press statement made available to Wawa News Global, dismissed the rumour as a tissue of lies concocted by his detractors to smear his image.
He said he remained a stunch member of PDP and nursed no thought of leaving the party he had invested and sacrificed so much to build and sustain.
The Deputy Senate President who according to a PDP source, played a key role in the emergence of Atiku, said that he “is still in the PDP” and that his path in politics “is in the hands of the Almighty God”.
His words : “I am currently out of the country on a prescheduled engagement.
“In the past 24 hours, I have been inundated with calls from friends and political associates seeking clarification on the rumours of my departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has dominated the media.
“Let it be known that my path in politics is in the hands of the Almighty God, who has indeed been very faithful and gracious to me. I’m very grateful to God for this.
“My vision in politics is a system that works for everybody, a social and political environment where everybody, every section, and every tribe not only counts, but is also seen to count.
” As leaders, we must be mindful of this, for any system built on anything less will not endure.
“I am grateful to you – members of my family, my friends, political associates, and admirers across Nigeria and beyond – for your uncommon concern. I am indeed humbled by your kind words of solidarity and support.
“Please, rest assured that I am still in the PDP.”
Ekweremadu predicted landslide victory for PDP in the 2019 polls saying Nigerians are depending on the party for deliverance.
